Jim Tan graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School in 2017. He articled with Legal Aid Ontario in Brampton. After his call to the Ontario bar in 2018, Jim joined Stephen Durbin and Associates.
During law school, Jim discovered his passion for family law and mediation. He was an active member of Pro Bono Students Canada. Jim joined Osgoode Hall Law School’s Family Law Project in 2015 and eventually became the project coordinator. The Family Law Project enlists law students to assist self-represented litigants with legal drafting in the family law courts. Jim’s extensive involvement there yielded to him a profound understanding of the struggles many individuals face during a separation or divorce. The Law Foundation of Ontario recognized his contribution to the Family Law Project in its 2015 Annual Report.
As a family law lawyer, Jim approaches clients with compassion, patience and honesty. He is interested in alternative dispute resolutions to minimize the financial toll and emotional carnage associated with protracted family court proceedings. Ultimately, it is children who pay the price for the tug of war between parents in court. Jim always seeks to minimize that price.
Jim is able to serve clients in both English and Mandarin. He aims to provide affordable, effective and timely solutions to all issues flowing from divorce or separation.
Jim joined our team in December 2018.
